ZYG ZAYLER

Having completed rigorous Articles under Peter Redlich, Senior Partner of Holding Redlich & Co, Zyg chose to join Donald Campbell, Solicitor and, for a period of 10 months, began to hone his skills in the area of Criminal Law.

Zyg then went to the Victorian Bar, where he spent 5 years doing varied work as a Barrister.  However, Criminal Law continued to be the majority of work that he undertook.

Having known Rob Melasecca for many years prior to this, Zyg joined forces with Rob, initially with Melasecca Tobin & Zayler, then Melasecca Zayler and now Melasecca Kelly & Zayler and, from the early 1980’s until the present time, has practiced mainly and then exclusively, in the area of Criminal Law, becoming an Accredited Criminal Law Specialist in the first-examined intake of Law Institute Specialists in this area.

With over 40 years of experience in Criminal Law, Zyg has been involved in some of the most high-profile cases in this Country.

Zyg acted for Alan Bond, in his victorious appeals to the High Court of Australia.  He has acted for numerous persons charged with white-collar crime, involving multi-million dollar payroll tax fraud and breach of trust fraud, including a number of solicitors and accountants who used Zyg’s services in this area.  Zyg acted for the infamous John Friedrich, in the highly publicised matter involving the billion-dollar plus fraud on the Bank of South Australia and State Bank of Victoria.  Zyg headed a team that spent 18 months in preparation and were involved in a 5 million dollar tax fraud, together with numerous other white collar crime matters of this type.

Much of Zyg’s work took him interstate and Zyg carried on a very significant practice in all States of Australia.  Zyg has also appeared in Europe, in preliminary hearings for clients.

Throughout his career, Zyg has acted in some of the most significant importation cases in Australia, involving drugs and contraband worth many millions of dollars, and continues to act in all other areas of crime in serious, major offences.

Zyg has teamed up with well- known members of the Victoria Bar over many years.  Zyg also appears as Counsel on behalf of clients in all jurisdictions, when called upon to do so.  He also does Appellate work, including the preparation of Written Cases for the Court of Appeal.

Zyg’s experience is second to none when it comes to his chosen field of Speciality.
